Tickling the Ivories
Ashley’s headed down to Zanesville the next couple of days for the Buckeye Christian School Association’s annual competition at Zanesville Christian School. We have a “Christian school at home” here, but our neighbors to the north, Mentor Christian School, only had one pianist, and so asked for Ashley’s help.
Ash will be accompanying five students of MCS for eight performances:
- Solo: “Ah! mio cor” [mp3] “Ah! mio cor” [YouTube] (“Ah; poor heart”)
- Solo: “Bel Piacere” [mp3] (“Tis great pleasure)
- Solo: “Jesus, I am Resting”
- Solo: “Nel cor piu non mi sento” [YouTube] (“Why feels my heart so dormant”)
- Solo: “Standchen” [YouTube]
- Duet: “Sound the Trumpet” [YouTube]
- Duet: “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah”
- Trio: “With a Voice of Singing”
Note: the links I provided are obviously not the actual performances! I included them to give you an idea what they sound like.
If any of these win first place, they’ll go to nationals at Bob Jones University the first week in April. She’s hoping for that!

Its Friday!
We really look forward to Fridays! Just a warning to our suburban and city friends and family–this post might make you roll your eyes a bit!
School is normally finished around 2:00-2:30. By that time the crew is ready to go! Where?
Well, you need to understand that there’s not much as far as shopping venues go here in Orwell. There’s the Golden Dawn grocery store, Family Dollar, Dollar General, a Circle K convenience store, and the Shell gas station. Oh yeah, I forgot the Drug Store as well.
Thus, on Fridays the crew loads up to go to Middlefield, a good 15-20 minute drive southwest of Orwell, and incidentally home of the fourth largest Amish population in the USA. First stop, the library:
Orwell has its own library, but it didn’t take long for the farmhands to pretty much exhaust its riches. So they enjoy spending a good hour at the Middlefield library, literally loading up on piles of books.
Next stop is grocery shopping at the Middlefield Sav-A-Lot and Wal-Mart. While Trish procures the needed food for the hard-working farmhands, they enjoy shopping and looking about.
The Middlefield Wal-Mart definitely accommodates their Amish customers!
Remember, I told you your eyes might roll a bit! When the highlight of your week is going to the library and Wal-Mart, you know you live out in the country!
If you haven’t rolled your eyes yet, maybe this newspaper clipping I came across will do the trick. It explains how some feel about going to Wal-Mart–
Isn’t that a hoot?
I’m just imagining Alyson Peterson’s response right now [heh heh]

Ice
I mentioned yesterday that we received a shellacking of ice. The effects have been both beautiful and disastrous for parts of our area.
Here’s Ashley’s pix from yesterday…
That last one is my favorite–the bud encased in ice. Here are some new pix from today…
Between the sun shining on the ice and the trees literally crackling (and cracking!) it was a beautiful morning!

New Spectacles
Hannah’s eyes finally succumbed to the fate of everyone on both sides of the family.
Blurred vision is no fun, but new fancy specs can add some excitement to the change!
BTW, the hat Hannah’s wearing is to be understood as “Providentially Blessed” not “Lucky”
