Great Quote

“A believer who will discredit systematic theology has meager intelligence and spirituality to match it.”

–Earle G. Griffith, Baptists: Their History, Principles and Polity, 1935, p. 60.

Speaking of Reading, Part 2….

Reformed Pastor (Puritan Paperbacks)

Lest, in view of my previous post, it be thought that the subject matter of our reading is wanting, I thought I’d share a challenging reminder from the Puritan Richard Baxter, whose work The Reformed Pastor I’m reading again (the first time was the summer of 1998):

The ministerial work must be carried on purely for God and the salvation of souls, not for any private ends of our own. A wrong end makes all the work bad as from us, how good soever it may be in its own nature. It is not serving God, but ourselves, if we do it not for God, but for ourselves (p. 111).

While Baxter specifically writes with pastors in view, it is a truth applicable to every believer.

Ruminations

cow2.jpg

We here on the farm are constantly reminded of our Lord’s goodness to us in so many ways. We are grateful, thankful for His many blessings and provisions to us throughout our time on this earth.

We not only want to inform you of news from the farm, we also want to encourage you to faithfully follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, so we’ve added a new category called Ruminations.

If you check Webster’s Dictionary, to ruminate is “1. to go over in the mind repeatedly or slowly, 2. to chew repeatedly for an extended period.”

Occasionally we’ll share something from God’s Word with you hoping that by “chewing on it” for awhile you will be built up in Christ.

Here’s one to start us off: Luke relates in chapter 18 of his gospel that Jesus

“was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart(v. 1).

Jesus’ assured His disciples,

“Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (vv. 7-8)
